A little "wubby" for the LOC mascot

Hi all! I'm back with a ridiculously easy craft. So ridiculously easy that I needed 11 pictures of it. But that's okay, 3 of them are the LOC mascot, my cat, forever known on the blog as LOCat (not to be confused with lolcats, haha). You say you can't sew? You can sew this.

We're going to be making a little "wubby" for your animal, or a little stuffed mouse. :) It started last night - Mama LOC was visiting and we were making dog coats (watch the Etsy store for more information!) and we were using this purple dense fleece. LOCat couldn't keep her paws off of the scraps, and we couldn't figure out why, but she was loving it. Mama LOC gave me the scraps to make something for LOCat and so here we are.

So I've gathered my supplies - The purple fleece, a little bit of periwinkle ribbon to make a tail out of, and some catnip. Not pictured - a little bit of polyfill, sewing machine, perm. marker. That's all you need! The best thing about cat toys is that they don't have to be perfect.

As you can see in that first picture, by the way the fabric was cut, I already had a mouse shape going on. If you don't happen to have a perfectly cut scrap, you're basically going to be cutting a heart shape.

And this is what it looks like when the two sides are folded in together. A little mouse type shape. I've thrown a pin in just so it's a little more secure when I sew it. Sometimes this kind of fabric can be tricky because it is so thick and slick.

Now I've cut some ribbon - making it fancy like this is NOT necessary. I just thought LOCat would get a kick out of the four ribbons and the tiny bit of macrame gives her something to gnaw on. It really can be any size - just remember you've got to sew it in the mouse.

Load up your mouse, make sure the ribbon is in place and sew around until there is about an inch of clearance left. You're going to want to keep this open for just a few minutes so that you can give the mouse a little bit of stuffing and catnip!

 You don't need very much stuffing for these guys. I used maybe two tiny handfuls and that was plenty. After putting in the first handful of stuffing, I put a little bit of catnip inside. A lot of it fell on my hands so I rubbed the outside of the body with it for extra craziness. ;)

 Once you're done loading it up, throw it back in the sewing machine and continue going around the body. The bottom doesn't need to be done since you did it on the fold. Make sure your tail is secure and then grab your marker and give it some eyes. I might go back at give it some ears with the marker too. I didn't use buttons or beads, just in case they were to come loose and become a choking hazard.

Final steps...

Give it to LOCat and watch the cat go bonkers! She hasn't stopped playing with it oh... since I started putting together this post, about an hour now!
