Armoire Design and Decor Ideas

I recently discovered Chairish, and was invited to style an armoire from their collection!

Chairish is a fun, gorgeous and easy-to-navigate site for vintage design and modern design lovers alike. Chairish offers the chance for those who maybe have collected one-to-many decor options (hides) to sell their vintage furniture and decor to one another - and of course, buy some more too, while you're at it. ;)

What makes this different from other online options is that Chairish "exclusively features curator-approved treasures in a full-service and trustworthy environment." So you know that the item you're going to receive is true vintage, in great shape, and worth your investment.

You can check out all of the armoires they have available at the moment here. The collection is always changing and really does feature something for everyone's taste.

So, how would I go about decorating an armoire? Check out what I picked!

See the entire design on Polyvore, and click the items to go to Chairish here.

When styling an armoire, I think bigger is better. More than bigger, I think TALLER is better! Take the back most item to the ceiling (or close to it) to bring your eyes up. This will make the room feel taller as well!

I picked out a painting to get this affect. I also love vintage items, so I selected a soda crate from Chairish.  Everyone needs a wooden crate. I'm serious! I love to stack vinyl in mine, or hide cords on the ground with them. You can see all of the different wooden crates at Chairish here.

I put ivy in the crate to give it a little "life." I'm notoriously bad at houseplants, and would definitely forget to water it up there, so I would use faux. It's far enough away that it won't be obvious!

After that, what fun is decor without a little color? I picked out red terracotta bottles for that added kick. Bottles are SO handy, because you can put a little plant in them, some string lights, feathers - really, anything you can think of. Or, you can just leave them as is! Bottles of every shape and size, I found at Chairish.

Another fun thing about decorating an armoire is that it can be seasonal, too! Using the same grouping concept, think of the seasons:

- A box wrapped in Christmas paper replaces the wooden crate, your square shape.
- A fun print of a vintage Christmas scene, in the frame
- A few springs of evergreen tree replaces the ivy.
- You can replace the bottles with that old, vintage santa figurine. Items that you didn't know where they should go before are PERFECT for the top of an armoire.

The ideas are endless!

Thank you to Chairish for reaching out and inviting me to style an armoire!

It's Pinspired Friday {Look for Less #2}

It's Pinspired Friday! TGIF!

Taylor Swift seems to be able to pull off just about any look, especially those highly polished, preppy and pretty looks. This one popped up on my Pinterest feed, and I was inspired to find the look for less. :)

The site the image came from didn't come with the price tag for that outfit, but it's safe to say it's probably not under $100. My version just happens to be! Of course, take it with a grain of salt - my prices don't include shipping, taxes, etc. Get Taylor Swift's look for only $71.99.

It's Pinspired Friday {Look for Less}

Ever since I joined Pinterest, I've had a "My Style Board." I've pinned a lot of different looks, and it's been fun to work with what I got to switch up my style. I've learned new ways to wear things, and it's definitely helped me get outside my comfort zone and try patterns and styles I may not have tried before.

I've had this look pinned for 2 years, according to Pinterest (wow!) and yes, it's Kim Kardashian. There is very few things that she wears that I would wear, but this look looked so comfortable and easy to dress up and down, that I knew I had to pin it. It also gives me a new way to wear army green without looking like I joined the army.

I looked through a few places online to gather the pieces for this outfit, and I tried to stick to places that were easily accessible and most of all, affordable. The best part about this outfit is that you probably already have a few of the pieces!

It's Pinspired Friday! {A New Style}

TGIPF! It's Pinspired Friday!

So, I have a relatively large announcement regarding life outside of the blog... I've accepted my first full-time job with a local advertising agency. I am SO happy. I went to school for and graduated with a B.S. in Advertising and it's been a lifelong dream to work in an agency. Needless to say, I'm on cloud nine.

So what does that mean for this blog?
I have no plans to abandon the blog! Will I still have time to do every Friday still and a post sometime earlier in the week? I'm not sure yet. You may just start seeing many more crockpot meals and recipes. ;)

---------------------------------------------------

So in light of the recent development in my career, today I am touching on office attire. I definitely have some dressy clothes in my closet, but I thought I would share what I'm slowly grasping:

You need basics.
Who would have guessed, eh? I have this fantastic ability to purchase shirts and forget about my bottom half because it's boring. So I have a wonderful selection of bright shirts or "exciting" shirts, but very few cardigans, pants or skirts that are just basic. Is basic boring? I am learning it doesn't have to be. And people prefer if you wear pants in public, so...

I have a collection on my "My Style Pinboard" on Pinterest that I've been collecting forever, it seems, and a lot of my styles I've "collected" have the following basics:

Patterned Skirt Black Skirt

From Cleo.Ca

Grey/Dark Grey Skirt Navy Skirt
From Outfitposts.blogspot.com

From Hello-Gorgeous-Blog

Khaki Skirt Bright Colored Skirt
From Polyvore

From Hello-Gorgeous-Blog

So now that we've got six basic colored skirts, we'll want the same in dress pants. You can start to see in even just those five images, if you've got the basics, you can change around the tops easily to make them work with the other colored skirts too! It's worth noting having basic shoes: black pumps, tan/brown pumps, black flats and camel/brown flats go with everything too. You can throw some sandals or sandal heels in there too.

So now we need pants:

Get the idea? I finally am. I need basics and the rest will come. Grab a cardigan using the same basic formula (black + tan + navy + patterned + colorful + grey) and you can easily layer and make a great looking outfit.

Next, you need accessories.

Some offices may be more or less stringent on what is appropriate. I always tend to stick with more traditional styles when it comes to accessories like purses so that it matches with everything, but I may have more exciting earrings or necklaces. If you can balance a more traditional accessory like a purse with crazy shiny earrings, you'll look more put together and avoid my biggest fear - look like you're trying TOO hard to love every trend.

So there are just a few tips and tricks that I am learning! I am excited to have the chance to wear more office appropriate attire and of course, to be an asset to a company that does what I've always wanted to do.

Have any tricks or tips when it comes to office attire, or heading into a new position? Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend!
